Biblical Insights on Salvation, Life Challenges, and Overcoming Fear
Ray Comfort and the Doctrine of Repentance
I’ve had many people ask about Ray Comfort’s Gospel. My judgment here is made on Ray’s doctrine alone — his teaching from his own videos and blogs and home page. I am firmly convinced that from both hearing him and researching him over the years, that Ray Comfort’s supposed gospel is unfortunately another gospel.
Ray says turning from sin is part of the gospel message. He believes any who do not teach repentance as meaning turn from all your sin, or stop sinning, then they teach a false gospel. However, the ‘turn from all sin‘ or ‘repent from all your sin’ message is another gospel. Turning from sin (although good) is a work of the law (Numbers 5:6-7). Turning from sin may save us from consequences in this physical life, but it cannot contribute to receiving eternal life. Eternally speaking, if we put any faith in adding our work of turning from or stopping sin, it then becomes a works-based salvation that will not save.
Regarding the solution to sin, the Bible is clear: Put your trust in Jesus and His work. Completely on Him. Jesus answered and said unto them, "This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent" (John 6:28-29). If you are looking at yourself in any way to ‘do’ something to receive the free gift of eternal life, it is not the gospel.
Practical Ways To Deal With Life Issues
Everyone faces life issues regardless of age, income, or spiritual maturity. The question isn’t whether we’ll encounter difficulties, but whether we know practical ways to deal with life issues when they arrive. Life challenges are not punishment; they’re opportunities for spiritual growth and personal development. James 1:2-4 teaches us to “count it all joy” when facing trials because trials produce perseverance and maturity.
Through personal experience and conversations with struggling believers, the following strategies have been identified:
| Strategy Number | Biblical Strategy for Overcoming Challenges |
|---|---|
| 1 | Study and Meditate on God’s Word Daily |
| 2 | Maintain Consistent Prayer and Communication with God |
| 3 | Seek Godly Counsel and Join Christian Community |
| 4 | Choose Faith Over Fear in Every Situation |
| 5 | Develop an Action Plan |
| 6 | Guard Your Heart and Abstain from Sin |
| 7 | Practice Gratitude and Rejoice in All Circumstances |
| 8 | Trust God’s Perfect Timing and Sovereign Plan |
| 9 | Draw Strength from God’s Promises and Faithfulness |
Romans 5:3-5 teaches that “suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” What feels overwhelming today is “momentary” in light of eternity. 1 Peter 1:6-7 compares trials to refining gold, explaining they prove genuine faith. Understanding this biblical framework is among the most foundational ways to deal with life issues.
Overcoming Fear with Faith
Fear has been a tormenting influence from start to finish. It tells lies and prevents people from doing the things they should have done. To address this, one must declare: "I’m writing you this letter to let you know that from this point forward, I will not fear." Although I may feel your presence, I will not bow down to your demands.
I have a friend whose name is Jesus, and He has promised to never leave me nor forsake me, but to be with me always. He is indeed a powerful friend, and although fear does have some power, His is by far much greater. The more time I spend with Jesus, the more courageous I become. He’s teaching me a new way to live, one that’s exciting and adventurous, one that is fearless. The years wasted with fear will be redeemed, and I will bear much good fruit.
