Star Citizen 1.0 and the Narrative Depth of Citizen Sleeper

The final talk of the day is titled Star Citizen 1.0. It’s there to give the overview of what the game is aiming to be beyond the alpha versions. What is the 1.0 version? They started by going back to the KS and the 100 star systems, mentioning those were non explorable planets with at most a handful of POIs and automated landings. This has little to do with the current planet tech which is fully explorable and much beyond that. In other words, don’t expect anywhere near that number; from what they say, 5 star systems.

Gameplay Loops and Economy in Star Citizen

The game will include a NPC driven storyline to guide new players on their learning experience of the gameplay loops and various professions. The quest line will also allow them to earn their citizenship (which allows you to own land). Regarding the financial systems, the developers detailed a dynamic economy with cash sinks to counter inflation. The talk finally touched on ship insurance and how it will work.

More interesting, they had a talk about how cyclical gameplay loops will evolve to provide goals and motivation to the gameplay. They had one example with mining and working towards acquiring a military you can’t just buy. Piracy, ship ownership and the rewards of stealing a ship were detailed. And it sounds like you will be able to claim ownership of stolen ships. Part of this is the org system wide PVP gameplay. Now we know what orgs are for in low sec systems: resource exploitation, ground warfare, space warfare, and competition for limited shield tokens that will protect your ground installations.
