Q4OS: A Fast and Stable Debian-Based Desktop Operating System
Q4OS is a Debian-based desktop Linux distribution offering a choice of a classic-style user interface (Trinity) and a modern desktop environment (KDE Plasma). Welcome to Q4OS fast and friendly, desktop oriented operating system based on Debian Linux. Providing a set of dedicated utilities and specific optimizations, combined with a focus on getting a productive system easily, Q4OS is suitable for both newcomers as well as experienced computer users. This makes it ideal for people who want to get a working environment tailored to individual needs and preferences.

Performance and Stability
Lean and fast thanks to unique Q4OS tools, a user can rather easily achieve setup of a fitted system eliminating superfluous components and applications. Therefore Q4OS performs faster and more efficient, doesn't exploit memory and computing resources with useless tasks and processes. Stability, consistence, and lightness are top priorities. Q4OS is designed to be stable, immutable and fail-safe in the long-term, which is exactly what Debian upstream guarantees.
Flexible Desktop Options
The project offers a unique alternative that makes possible setting up multiple desktop environments side by side without interfering with each other. Typically Plasma and Trinity are carefully separated, ready to run as required, waiting for action. You can just select the desired one at login time.
- Trinity desktop option: Lightweight, fast, efficient, and in many ways surpasses competition. Mainstream Linux distributions don't support Trinity at all, but Q4OS provides it as a dedicated download option.
- KDE Plasma: A modern desktop environment provided as the default option.
- Lookswitcher: Install Lookswitcher from the software center to get a few original desktop themes and a one-click tool to easily switch between them.
Exclusive Features and Migration Tools
The project also develops various utilities, such as Desktop Profiler and Software Center, as well as installers for third party applications. For those transitioning from other platforms, Q4OS provides unique solutions:
Windows Installer
An exclusive way to put Linux alongside Windows is to just run a setup wizard from within Windows and install Q4OS as easily as any other application. Although installed within windows, Q4OS kernel takes full control of the hardware, which is much more efficient than running a virtual machine.
Windows Migration Variants
In late 2024, Q4OS started offering FreeXP and Free10, two Q4OS variants with Windows-like themes to help users migrate from unsupported Windows versions to Linux. These features, combined with support for x86/32bit as well as ARM architecture, make Q4OS a versatile choice for a variety of hardware, including old computers.
